Runcorn Thermal Power Station (TPS) is one of the largest waste to energy plant of its type in Europe with capacity to process 750,000 tonnes of municipal waste.

Waste to energy – non-recyclable waste from Greater Manchester and Cheshire processed into solid recovered fuel (SRF) is used to fuel this plant, much of it being transported by rail. Heat from the incineration process is recovered and used to generate power and export steam to the nearby Runcorn chemical works plant.

Working with John Sisk & Son we provided an alternative design for a 16 metre high free standing Firewall. The design involved specialist connections at the base of 16 metre high cantilever columns to eliminate temporary propping during installation which would have had major implications for follow on works.

The precast columns and over 100 wall panels were installed in just one week, detailed planning and co-ordination with the main contractor ensured a smooth delivery and installation process with no disruption to other works on this busy site.
